Church Motto

"Serving As Christ, the Redeemer, Served"

"Serving As Christ, the Redeemer, Served" is an appropriate motto for at least two reasons.

First of all, it calls to mind the person and work of the Redeemer, Jesus Christ. He is the one who "...did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Mt. 20:28) Through the Redeemer's life of service, including His suffering, death and resurrection, all people are rescued from sin, death, and Satan. People can once again live in peace with God and harmony with each other. Indeed the Redeemer has served!

Secondly, the motto is appropriate because it calls to mind the mission of the Church, including Redeemer Lutheran Congregation. Christ has redeemed us for a purpose. This purpose is presented in these verses of Holy Scripture: "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you" (Mt. 28:19-20); "Love each other as I have loved you" (Jn. 15:12); As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work (Jn. 9:4).

These words represent a great commission, a great compassion, and a great condition. They remind us that as Christ served and still serves, so we, His people, are to serve. Our chief service is to declare in word and deed the love of God in Christ Jesus.

By God's grace and power, the people of Redeemer have been about this mission for the past 81 years. Many lives have been touched as the faithful have used their time, talents, and treasures. Many have been brought into and strengthened in a saving relationship with the Redeemer. We praise and thank God for the Holy Spirit's power and guidance in this effort.

But the work is not yet accomplished. The entire world remains the object of our service. Therefore, as we celebrate our past, as we give thanks to God for his many blessings, we also rededicate ourselves to the mission at hand. We ask God to further bless and sanctify our efforts so that we may go on "Serving As Christ, the Redeemer, Served!"
